Playground in Nogeyama Zoo
We designed a new rest area and playground at Nogeyama zoo, which has a very long history. This is a place where kids and small animals play together, so we wanted to make this space full of twinkling light, playfulness and softness.
Graphic patterns on the floor, rows of benches, floating sunroofs, and reflecting shadows of trees are all intertwined here, to create a place where one can enjoy and feel small sensitive movements and interaction between human, animals and nature. Sunroofs are combination of small and big rings, designed for both functional and visual effects. Rest area is located next to the playground, and covered by polycarbonate sunroof, which reflects shadows of swaying trees above.  The sunroof is supported minimum structural system, which is series or girders without ties along long direction.
