Yokohama International Triennale of Contemporary Art
Under art direction by Mr. Tadashi Kawamata, we worked on overall plan of exhibition space.
Upon our first site visit, we were strongly attracted by the active movements there; big forklift trucks move about, busily shifting tons of containers from one place to another, as if guiding waves of passengers towards right directions at airport transit.
Instead of preparing conventional white wall for exhibit, we decided to give a ‘container’ to each artist.  And we discussed with each artist what spatial condition is necessary to exhibit his/her works in the given container, then after that we made overall layout plan.
Containers become background for artworks, and at the same time acted as interesting spatial elements, so the site itself became a work of contemporary art.
